The Trump administration has shut down Power Africa, a program launched under Obama in 2013 in order to expand electricity access across Africa.

According to AfricaNews on January 26th, many of Power Africa’s initiatives have been ended, and a majority of its staff have been dismissed.

A State Department spokesperson said: “Programs that serve our nation’s interests will continue. However, programs that aren’t aligned with our national interest will not.”
