Algeria faces criticism over cultural appropriation

After an attempt to promote Algerian tourism on the X platform, Algeria has come under criticism from many Moroccans for Morocco appropriation, including images of Ait Ben Haddou, an iconic Moroccan monument and UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Many Moroccans see this as another attempt by Algeria to appropriate their cultural heritage.
According to Atalayar 27 February, Moroccan activists have created social media campaigns condemning what they view as misrepresentation of their cultural landmarks.
This incident adds to the ongoing tensions between the neighbouring North African countries, which have had strained diplomatic relations for years over various territorial and political disputes.
