DRC: Shrinking international financing endangers humanitarian aid

Despite the escalation of the conflict in Eastern DR Congo, funds collected for humanitarian aid in the country are set to be lower this year, in part because of the interruption of American aid, according to RFI on February 28th.
During the presentation for the humanitarian plan in Kinshasa, the figure of $2.54m was presented but chances are slim it will be attained, as the USAID program – making for 70% of last year’s $1.3m budget – was frozen.
DRC is currently facing multiple crisis, as the lack of aid could lead to a sanitary disaster warns coordinator of the forum of NGOs in DRC Luc lamprière, with cholera, measles and mpox progressing. The war ravaging the eastern part of the country has also aggravated the humanitarian crisis with atrocities committed against local population.
