Israel is set to impose restrictions on movement during Ramadan, the Muslim Holy Month, making it more difficult to visit the al-Aqsa mosque.

The Arab Weekly reported on Friday 28th that the Israeli government are concerned about the possibility of violent clashes at the holy site, also often considered a symbol of Palestinian national identity, and so will implement “safety restrictions” over the Mosque’s compound in the Old City of Jerusalem.

A government spokesperson said on February 28th that, “the usual restrictions will be in place as they have been every year,’ before adding that the restrictions on will target, “people seeking to foment violence and attacks.”
