Yemeni Information Minister Moammar al-Eryani on February 19th called for the arrest of several leaders of the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen.

Al-Eryani said the individuals would attend Lebanese Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah’s funeral in Lebanon’s Beirut, The New Arab via Reuters reported.

Nasrallah served as Hezbollah’s secretary-general for over three decades. Nasrallah was killed on September 27th, as Israel accelerated its series of airstrikes on the south of Lebanon. Nasrallah’s funeral took place on February 23rd.

Eryani published his demand on X, calling for the Houthi officials to be handed over to the rival internationally-recognised government.

“We affirm that the movement of these terrorist leaders … in this timing is not a mere participation in the funeral, which is being used as a cover, to gather all the leaders of the Iranian axis and assess the situation after the blows they received,” Eryani said, pointing to recent Israeli attacks on Iran-backed militant groups like the Houthis and Hezbollah.

On February 20th, Eryani launched a campaign on X using the hashtag #Houthi_is_An_International_Danger. The media wide campaign damands the “arrest and extradition of the leaders of the terrorist Houthi militia present in Lebanon, expulsion of all Houthi elements, and the closure of their political and media headquarters that are used to spread chaos and extremism in Yemen, the region, and the world.”

The information minister addressed his campaign to “every free Yemeni and to everyone who rejects Iranian terrorism in the region.” He also called the international community to “assume its responsibilities in stopping the chaos practiced by the Houthi militia, and preventing it from exploiting Lebanon as a safe haven for its subversive activities that threaten the security of the region and the world.”

“It is time to expose the dangerous schemes hatched by the Houthi militia, Hezbollah, and Iran, and to stop their ongoing attempts to destabilize security and stability in Yemen, the region, and the world,” he added.
