Saudi Arabia rejects formation of rival government in Sudan

Saudi Arabia on February 28th condemned a decision by Sudanese militias to form a rival government, official media said according to The New Arab.
On February 23rd, the RSF militia and its allies, who have been fighting the army-lead government of Sudan since April 2023, signed a charter in Nairobi which they said establishes a “government of peace and unity” in areas of Sudan under their control.
Riyadh, which previously mediated talks in a bid to end Sudan’s war, “expressed the rejection by the kingdom of any step or illegal measure taken outside the framework of official institutions of the Republic of Sudan, susceptible to affecting its unity and not reflecting the will of its people, including the call to form a parallel government”.
