Interim president of Gabon declares election candidacy

The interim president of Gabon, Brice Oligui Nguema, announced on March 3rd that he will run in the country’s presidential election scheduled for April 12th, ending months of speculation, reported Anadolu Ajansi.
Nguema took power in a coup, leading a group of senior Gabonese army officers to depose former president Ali Bongo in August 2023, ending 56 years of the so-called Bongo dynasty.
Candidates who want to run for president have until March 8th to officially apply to the National Commission for the Organization and Coordination of Elections and Referendums.
