Morocco expects to be hit by heavy rain and snow

A new weather alert said that snow of between 5 and 30 centimeters will fall across Moroccan provinces from March 3rd at 12pm to March 4th at 7am.
According to Morocco World News, heavy rainfall between 20 and 30 millimeters, thunder, and hail is also expected from 12am on March 4th in some provinces.
The snow will hit the provinces of Azilal, Midelt, Ouarzazate, and Tinghir which are all in or near the Atlas mountains, as well as Beni Mellal, a province in North-Central Morocco, and Al Haouz in Marrakech-Safi.
Many of these provinces were directly affected by the Al Haouz earthquake in 2023, which killed 3,000.
In February, the victims of the earthquake began protests against aid delays and the suboptimal, wintery conditions experienced in makeshift tents they have been forced to live in since 2023. January snowfall already covered these tents, making the upcoming weather even more problematic.
However, the weather is welcome in some respects as there have been concerns about drought, a lack of rainfall, and limited water reserves in Moroccan dams.
Morocco’s Minister of Agriculture Ahmed El Bouari said that the water in Morocco’s dams does not currently exceed more than 4.6 billion cubic meters.
The drought caused Morocco to cancel the Eid Al Adha sacrifice ritual as a result of a significant 38% decrease in livestock.
