Sudan: More than 200 children raped since start of 2024, UN says

More than 200 children, some as young as a year old, have been raped since the beginning of 2024 during the Sudanese civil war, according to the UN children’s agency.

Reported by Associated Press on March 4^th, rape and sexual abuse have been used as a tactic of war. UNICEF said 221 children, including boys, were raped by armed men, according to records compiled by gender-based violence service providers – but this only accounts for those who have come forward.

Rights groups say atrocities, including sexual violence, have been committed by both sides in a war-ravaged country that has left 61,800 children internally displaced, emphasizing their vulnerability.
