Report says nearly 17 million Moroccans will be overweight by 2030

The World Obesity Atlas 2025 reports that obesity is continuing to grow at a high rate in Morocco. The study says that by this year, 59% of adults will be living with a body mass index (BMI) greater than 25 kg/m, either overweight or obese, according to Telquel.
In addition, it says 24% of adults will be considered obese. The report says in Morocco in 2021, 16,524 premature deaths were attributed to non-communicable diseases linked to a high BMI, including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and certain cancers.
The study’s projections for 2030, published on the occasion of World Obesity Day on March 4, reveal an intensification of the situation, with the number of adults living with a high BMI increasing to 16.86 million.
