According to a Global Terrorism Index, the Sahel region in Africa has become one of the most dangerous places in the world due to the high number of terrorism-related deaths.
As reported by BBC News, the region accounts for “Over half of terrorism-related deaths ” worldwide, making it an “epicentre of global terrorism.”
The report comes after years of violent conflict caused by militant jihadist groups such as ISIS, which have been battling for control of the region.
