Morocco surpasses France as Spain’s as main gas customer

Morocco has overtaken France as Spain’s largest natural gas customer.

According to Atalayar, Spain exported 886 million cubic metres of gas to Morocco in 2024, up from 861 million in 2023, reflecting sustained energy demand in the North African country.

Despite this growing reliance on Spanish gas imports, Morocco has stated its intention to become self-sufficient in natural gas production in the future.
