US aid cuts weaken fight against malaria in Africa

US aid cuts by the Trump administration have raised serious concern among health officials in African countries like Uganda, Nigeria, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where foreign aid is crucial in combating diseases like malaria.
As reported by the Associated Press, the Trump Administration decision to cut 90% of USAID’s foreign aid contracts has created the conditions for a potential health crisis in the region.
According to the World Health Organisation, Africa, with a population of 1.5 billion, accounted for 95% of all malaria-related deaths globally in 2023.
