Algeria: 1 million sheep import plan for Eid al-Adha

The Algerian president announced plans to import 1 million sheep for Eid al-Adha on 9th March, according to AP News.
President Abdelmadjid Tebboune directed ministers to introduce plans for livestock import to meet the demands with efforts to stabilise the costs
This year’s initiative aims to prevent price spikes and shortages that could put the ritual sacrifice out of reach for most Algerian families.
History has shown that food prices can incite political anger in North Africa and Algeria isn’t the only country taking steps ahead of Eid Al-Adha.
Tebboune’s plans are there to make Eid more feasible for those who might not afford sheep.
It is one of many new government spending policies the country has introduced to calm social unrest amid the continuing crackdown of opposition parties, journalists, and people critical of the military government.
