The UN Security Council condemned violence in Syria and the coastal region, calling for protection after attacks killed 1,000 in the region.

According to Reuters, they have agreed on a statement which calls on all Syrians regardless of their background to be protected under the new government of al-Sharaa on the 13th of March.

The statement has been jointly drafted by the US and Russia and has come from violence in Syria, which took place on the Alawites in the North Western region on the 6th of March, where, up to now, around 1,000 people have been killed.

The statement reaffirms commitment to Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity with increased risk of foreign fighters and terrorism in the country.
