Somalia and Somaliland reject US Gaza plan

Somalia and breakaway region Somaliland have not received any proposals from the US or Israel to resettle displaced Palestinians said their foreign ministers.
According to Middle East Monitor, US and Israeli officials said they had contacted officials from Sudan, Somalia and Somaliland to discuss using their territory to resettle Palestinians from the Gaza strip.
Sudanese officials said they rejected a proposal sent by the United States, whereas officials from Somalia and Somaliland said they had not been contacted.
Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, Somali foreign minister, said his country will outright reject “any proposal or initiative, from any party, that would undermine the Palestinian people’s right to live peacefully on their ancestral land.”
Fiqi asserted that Mogadishu is against any plan involving the usage of Somali territory to resettle other populations.
At the same time Abdirahman Dahir Adan, foreign minister of Somaliland said, “there are no talks with anyone regarding Palestinians”.
Somaliland had hoped to foster positive relations with the US, as it is not currently formally recognized by any other country.
Trumps Gaza plan includes the permanent relocation of Palestinians, as well as a US takeover of the Gaza strip, turning it into a “riviera”. This idea has been widely likened to ethnic cleansing by politicians and commentators.
