Italy’s ambassador to Morocco has described the North African kingdom as a “genuine hub” connecting Africa and Europe, highlighting its strategic role as a bridge between the two continents.

According to Morocco World News, Armando Barucco, in an interview with Italpress, explained Morocco’s aim to connect the two continents. Barucco said the country “strives to develop infrastructure and stability for the Sahel countries.”

Morocco has the opportunity to be the main access point for European countries into Africa with its strategic position in the North of the continent, positioning the kingdom not only as a gateway for trade but also as an important pillar for security collaboration. The Italian ambassador called this aspect of the country “fundamental,” revealing the power which Morocco can have in relations with Europe.

Bilateral trade has seen an “extraordinary” recovery following the pandemic, according to Barucco. Italian companies are active across Morocco’s automotive, healthcare, and renewable energy sectors, with the ambassador specifically encouraging investors to explore opportunities related to Morocco’s preparations to co-host the 2030 World Cup.

As further evidence of strengthening ties, Morocco will soon host an office of “La Cassa Depositi e Prestiti,” becoming one of the few countries where this influential Italian public funding institution has representation.

The ambassador highlighted Morocco as “a key partner for Italy in renewables and energy transition within the framework of the Mattei plan” – Italy’s strategic initiative to strengthen economic and energy partnerships with African nations.

He praised Morocco’s leadership in supporting other African nations through its triangular program focused on energy transition and regional integration. With nearly 200 Italian companies already established across diverse sectors in Morocco, bilateral relations appear poised for continued expansion.

The Morocco-Italy partnership increasingly serves as a model for productive cross-Mediterranean cooperation in an era of growing geopolitical challenges.
