Former senior Israeli official welcomes chaos in Syria

The former head of the Israeli Military Intelligence Directorate has welcomed chaos in Syria, saying the “power struggle” benefits Israel.
Tamir Hayman in an interview with Israeli Army Radio welcomes conflict between the different factions in Syria but has urged the government not to engage. Israel however has launched attacks on Syria from the south, with an air strike on the Syrian capital Damascus on March 13th.
Analysts argue that as chaos consumes Syria, Israel can maintain their control of the Syrian south, creating a buffer zone between the two states which, Israel argues, will increase their security.
