Tunisian opposition party, The National Salvation Front (NSFT) has warned that authorities are “conspiring against the opposition.”

According to Middle East Monitor on March 26th, the NSFT spoke against the authorities during a seminar, stating: “the authorities reject any call for dialogue and do not accept any objection to its decisions. Therefore, it viewed a meeting between politicians for the purpose of consensus and dialogue as a conspiracy against it.”

Judge Ahmed Sawab thought that the conspiracy began a long time ago, he described the timeline as at first being a conspiracy against the constitution, and then against the judiciary, as authorities dismissed dozens of judges and dissolved the Supreme Judicial Council.”

The conspiracy “includes 17 very serious crimes, divided between the Anti-Terrorism Law and the Penal Code.”

Over the past two years, a number of Tunisian opposition politicians and journalists have been arrested on conspiracy charges. The politicians remain in prison, facing serious charges, some of which may be punishable by death.

Cases brought against the politicians have mostly been in relation to their involvement with Instalingo, a digital content creation firm that came under scrutiny when Tunisian President Kais Saied came to power in 2021

Opposition leader, Rached Ghannouchi’s imprisonment is among the most well-known, as he was sentenced to 22 years in prison in February after initially being jailed in 2o23.
