Souaid takes helm of Lebanon’s troubled banking sector

Karim Souaid formally took office as Lebanon’s new central bank governor on April 4th, pledging to combat money laundering, curb terror financing, and restore trust in the country’s crisis-hit banking sector.
According to The National, he vowed to prioritise the gradual return of depositors’ funds lost in the 2019 economic collapse and to operate independently of political influence.
His appointment comes as Lebanon seeks international support for economic reforms and recovery from the financial fallout of recent conflicts.
