An alliance of Sahel states withdrew their ambassadors from Algeria after the downing of a Malian drone.

Reported by The Associated Press on April 7th, the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), consisting of Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger have condemned Algeria on social media for the drone’s downing and condemned it as a violation of international law.

The act, they argue, was contrary to the fraternal relations between Algeria and the AES, denying that the drone had entered Algerian airspace. This development comes as tensions continue to rise between Mali and Algeria.
