Short-term ceasefire declared in Ukraine War

Russian President Vladimir Putin has declared a temporary ceasefire in Ukraine from May 8th to 11th, coinciding with World War II victory celebrations.
According to the BBC, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister responded by calling for a longer 30-day truce, while US President Trump has expressed a desire for a permanent ceasefire.
The announcement follows over 20 failed ceasefire attempts since the conflict began, including a similar 30-hour Easter truce that saw limited effectiveness with both sides reporting violations.
Analysts remain sceptical about the prospect of this latest ceasefire holding, given the history of broken truces between the two nations.
