Nearly two months after regaining control of the capital’s center, the Sudanese Army has finally declared that its paramilitary rival, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has been pushed out of Khartoum State, reports Asharq Al-Awsat on May 20.

“Khartoum state is completely free of rebels,” army spokesman Nabil Abdallah said in a statement, referring to the RSF.

The army’s announcement followed days of intense fighting in southwestern Omdurman, RSF’s last stronghold in Khartoum State, and was followed by a vow to continue operations until all remaining RSF-held areas are fully reclaimed.
