Egypt and Mauritania reactivate strategic alliance

Egypt and Mauritania revitalised their bilateral cooperation mechanism on May 27, marking a significant diplomatic breakthrough after nearly two decades of dormancy.
According to the Moroccan-friendly The North Africa Post, the second Joint Committee session in Nouakchott resulted in the signing of 13 comprehensive agreements spanning investment, education, and infrastructure sectors.
The revival signals a commitment to South-South collaboration and developmental diplomacy, with plans for annual meetings alternating between Cairo and Nouakchott.
Beyond bilateral interests, the partners discussed critical regional challenges, including humanitarian crises in Gaza and instability in Libya, Sudan, and the Sahel, demonstrating a forward-looking diplomatic approach.
