Syria shuts down Captagon production facilities

Syrian Interior Minister Anas Khattab announced the complete closure of captagon drug production facilities, claiming to have seized all manufacturing sites.
According to The New Arab Plus agencies, most factories were located in the Damascus countryside and near the Lebanese border, with many previously controlled by President Assad’s Fourth Division.
Captagon became Syria’s largest export during the civil war, serving as a key funding source for the regime. The new Islamist authorities have intercepted millions of pills and begun coordinating with neighbouring countries, including Jordan, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia, to combat drug smuggling.
The government also reported ongoing challenges from Islamic State militants attempting strategic attacks.
