UN’s push for unconditional Gaza ceasefire vetoed by US

The United States has vetoed the draft resolution of the UN security council urging for a ceasefire deal that is lasting and unconditional, the BBC reported on June 4th.
Dorothy Shea, who is the US Ambassador to the UN, announced that the resolution will “undermine diplomatic efforts” to achieve a ceasefire deal. She also said Hamas is not categorised as a terrorist group by the UN. The Palestinian militant group is defined as one by the US, UK and the European Union.
Shea also added that any measures which do not denounce Hamas or do not urge the group to lay down its arms and “leave Gaza,” will not be backed.
