Israel has admitted to carrying out an unannounced strike on south Gaza’s al-Mawasi area that caused the death of at least one Palestinian and caused 30 others to sustain injuries, the BBC reported on June 6th.

The incident occurred on June 1st near Khan Younis, after a separate, deadly attack near an aid distribution site in Rafah. Footage from the strike initially appeared to be linked to the aid site. However, geolocation confirmed that the blast occurred 4.5km away, where displaced Palestinians had been sheltering in tents.

When approached by BBC Verify, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) admitted to “technical and operational errors” that “deviated” artillery, which consequently meant that al-Mawasi was targeted.
