Egypt aims to eradicate leprosy by 2030, says PM Madbouli

Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli has called for intensified national efforts to eradicate leprosy and ensure comprehensive support for recovered patients, The Egyptian Gazette reported on June 10th, the oldest English-language daily newspaper in the Middle East. 

Speaking at a high-level meeting on June 10, Madbouli emphasised that access to quality healthcare is crucial for achieving Egypt’s broader sustainable development goals. The session brought together key ministers—including health and local development—as well as the governors of Alexandria and Qalyubia. 

Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar outlined current strategies to combat leprosy, reaffirming the government’s commitment to reducing cases to zero by 2030 through targeted treatment programs and nationwide health initiatives.
