Libya’s reconstruction plan takes shape

Members of the Libyan Parliament’s committee met on the 16th of June, with Engineer Belgassem Haftar, Director of the Development and Reconstruction Fund, and Hatem Al-Araibi, the Fund’s Project Director, to discuss Libya’s reconstruction plan.
According to the Libya Review, the committee was established by a decision of the House of Representatives, with the parliamentary delegation including MPs such as Saleh Afhima, Mabrouk Al-Khatabi, and Ali Akshir.
The meeting focused on the multi-year Libya reconstruction plan drafted by the fund for 2025, 26, and 27, alongside the proposed budget.
The committee discussed development strategies and infrastructure revival across the country.
The meeting saw a consensus on the necessity of equitable distribution of development projects for all regions of Libya, with suggestions from parliamentary districts to be included to uphold fair representation.
This is a big step towards developing infrastructure in the post-conflict reconstruction efforts, with transparency and fair implementation key to success in the years to come.
Since the fall of Gaddafi in 2011, Libya has been divided between rival administrations, and with an influx of migration through Libya, the country is in dire need of reconstruction.
It is hoped that this reconstruction plan can be a catalyst for broader stability in the country, which has faced serious security concerns, election issues, and human rights abuses.
