Israel’s military continued to demolish homes in Jenin refugee camp, where over 11,000 people live, Middle East Eye reported via Wafa news agency on June 19th. Bulldozers razed houses in the Al-Damaj neighbourhood and the camp’s eastern area in the West Bank.

Video footage showed bulldozers flattening structures, with several buildings collapsing entirely. A day earlier, soldiers demolished houses in the camp’s central Al-Samran neighbourhood.

Amid the worsening conditions in Palestinian refugee camps, according to a report by The New Arab plus agencies on May 8th, Israel permanently shut down six schools run by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in East Jerusalem.

This closure affects more than 800 Palestinian students. Israeli police and officials entered the schools during class hours and ordered them to close. Three of the schools are located in the Shuafat refugee camp, where more than 550 students were present at the time. UNRWA condemned the action as illegal under international law. Israel stated the schools operated without licenses and claimed they promoted anti-Israel views, which UNRWA denies.

Meanwhile, on June 19th, Reuters reported and Maghrebi cited that Israeli strikes and gunfire killed at least 140 people across Gaza within 24 hours, according to local health officials.

Medics confirmed that airstrikes on homes in the Maghazi refugee camp and other areas killed at least 21 people. An airstrike on an encampment in Khan Younis killed five others. The attacks on refugee camps highlighted the ongoing risks faced by displaced residents seeking safety and aid.
