Members of the Agadir Prefectural Police have arrested two British nationals as reported by Yabiladi on June 29th. Based on intelligence provided by Morocco’s General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), both individuals were the subject of international arrest warrants issued by the UK judicial authorities.

The arrests took place in the Anza district of Agadir. According to a security source, a check through the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) database revealed one of the suspects was wanted on an international warrant for alleged involvement in a homicide case.

The second individual was the subject of a red notice issued by the British authorities for failing to appear in court and violating the conditions of his parole. While a Red Notice is not an international arrest warrant, it requests police forces worldwide to detain a person pending extradition.

Both suspects have been placed in custody as according to extradition proceedings, and British authorities have been notified to begin the necessary formalities.

This operation is part of Morocco’s ongoing international security cooperation, and reflects the ongoing efforts of the Moroccan security services to track down and arrest people wanted internationally for cross-border offences.

Furthermore, it comes in advance of the country hosting Interpol’s 93rd session of its General Assembly in November this year.
