Nearly 37 years after the Lockerbie bombing, a major forensic breakthrough has been made that could be crucial evidence in the trial if the DNA recovered is a match for suspect Abu Agila Masud, according to Libya Review.

Masud is the third of three Libyan men charged by the US in relation to the bombing, and forensic scientists have recovered DNA traces from the lining of the suitcase holding the bomb that the US District Court for the District of Columbia will analyse and compare to Masud.

Families of the victims are yet to see justice, since the investigations have focused on Libya despite evidence that responsibility lies in the Middle East.
