Two Kayusha rockets hit an Iraqi military airbase in Kirkuk airport, north Iraq, on June 30th, according to The National via Reuters.

Furthermore, at least one security staff member was moderately wounded during the attack and another rocket fell into a home in Kirkuk, prompting material damage, a security official said. No group has claimed responsibility over the incident.

The military are of this airport which is located in Kirkuk, has Iraqi army, federal police, and paramilitary army bases. The paramilitary army is known as the mobilisation army.

Despite the incident, a statement from the Kirkuk international airport management said that no flights were cancelled nor delayed.

Iraq has faced ongoing drone and rocket attacks and has also been a territory at risk of being affected by proxy wars, especially during tensions between the US and Iran.

However, it only regained a fraction of its stability recently after tens of years of facing war and devastation. Just hours before the 12-day war between Israel and Iran ended, different drones had hit several radar systems in two military bases, located in Baghdad and South Iraq.

While an investigation has taken form, the perpetrators have not yet been identified.
