A Kurdish militant group declared on July 3rd that its militants in north Iraq will start handing over their arms, marking a fresh move towards disarmament, The New Arab via The Associated Press reported.

In May, The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) declared that it would dissolve. But in this most recent move, the fighters “will come down from the mountains” and will be officially disarmed in a bid to express intentions of peace and “democratic politics,” according to the PKK.

The ceremony for the process is scheduled to take place between July 10th and July 12th in Sulaymaniyah, located in Iraq’s Kurdish region.
