Palestinian activist files $20 million claim against US

The Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil has filed a claim against the US government for $2o million in damages after being freed from detention, Middle East Eye via The Associated Press reported on July 11th.
The claim, which is a precursor to a lawsuit, is addressed to the Department of Homeland Security, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the State Department.
The 30-year-old said that the move is “the first step towards accountability.” He added: “Nothing can restore the 104 days stolen from me. The trauma, the separation from my wife, the birth of my first child that I was forced to miss.”
