The Minister for Diaspora Affairs in Israel, Amichai Chikli, has urged for Syria’s President Ahmed al-Sharaa to be assassinated, claiming he is a terrorist and a murderer, The New Arab reported on July 16th.

Chikli’s comments occurred against a backdrop of Syria’s army and security forces being deployed in the Syrian city of Suweida, where lethal sectarian violence involving the Druze community has taken place.

Following the clashes, Israel launched air strikes in Damascus, such as in areas near Syria’s presidential palace and defence ministry. Reportedly, 18 people sustained injuries and at least three people died.
