The release of a jailed pro-Palestine Lebanese militant, who has has been behind bars for four decades, has been ordered by a French appeals court on July 17th, according to Al-Monitor via Reuters.

The militant, Georges Ibrahim Abdallah, was imprisoned for the killings of two foreign diplomats in 1982. Abdallah is one of France’s longest-serving prisoners – a country where the majority of people serving life sentences are released in less than three decades.

Abdallah has reportedly been up for release for 25 years, but the US has firmly expressed opposition against the 74-year-old being freed.
