Tunisia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have shown strong enthusiasm for deepening investment ties and expanding collaboration across public and private sectors, as reported by African Manager on July 16th.

The International Food Show Africa (IFSA Africa) provided a key platform for reaffirming this ambition through the UAE-Tunisia Agriculture and Food Forum, organised by the UAE Ministry of Economy and Tourism in partnership with the UAE Embassy in Tunisia.

The forum focused on “enhancing economic partnerships in food production, supply chains, and technologies related to the food value chain.” UAE Minister Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri addressed representatives from both nations’ public and private sectors, alongside international organisations and agriculture-focused startups such as Al Islami Foods, Iveco, and Emirates Bio Farm.

Speaking to ZAWYA, Al Marri underlined the potential for expanded cooperation between Tunisia and the UAE in food, agriculture, and food security. He stressed the importance of these sectors for achieving sustainable food security and increasing local production in both countries.

For Tunisia, the UAE is yet another allies in their ever growing global partnerships, such as with the UK, Saudi Arabia, and expanding foreign investment, which are intended to help the country’s economic problems.

“This forum also serves as an ideal platform to showcase the UAE’s achievements in the food sector and highlight its pioneering capabilities in food production, advanced agricultural technologies, and sustainable food security initiatives,” Al Marri said.

He added: “The UAE is moving toward an economic clustering model, centred on food hubs that unite agriculture, industry, and agri-tech to strengthen competitiveness and empower private sector growth.”

UAE Ambassador to Tunisia, Iman Ahmed Al Salami, highlighted the role of organic food in driving future cooperation and praised the UAE’s leadership in agri-tech.

The UAE’s food sector, which now contributes 11% to non-oil GDP, continues to grow through innovation, investment, and sustainability.
