France: Prosecutors eye new arrest warrant for Assad

French prosecutors announced on July 28th that they have sought a new arrest warrant against the ex-leader of Syria Bashar al-Assad, due to a chemical attack, after a former warrant was annulled, according to The New Arab via AFP.
The decision as to whether the new warrant will be issued is down to the investigating magistrates. Since 2021, French investigators have probed into an alleged Syrian government sarin gas attack which caused the deaths of over 1,000 people.
The former Syrian leader and his family fled to Russia after he fell from power in December. Reportedly, another warrant from France is currently out for Assad’s arrest.
