UK to recognise Palestinian state in September

The UK will recognise Palestine as a state in September, before the UN General Assembly, according to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, as reported by Reuters on July 29th.
A UK government statement said that the statehood recognition would take place unless Israel “takes substantive steps” to halt the worsening conditions in Gaza, agrees to a ceasefire, clearly states that the West Bank will not be annexed and “commits to a long-term peace process” that achieves a two-state solution.
Starmer reaffirmed that Hamas must free all captives, come to terms that they will serve no role in Gaza’s government and lay down their weapons.
