Syrian authorities have announced that an Assad-era army general who was trying to forge documents in an attempt to leave the country has been arrested, The New Arab reported on July 29th.

Imad Nafouri, who is an ex-air force commander of the Al-Seen airbase, had been hiding in an Aleppo residential building before he was arrested.

Reportedly, Nafouri’s arrest was the result of a surveillance and intelligence-led mission conducted by the security division in Syria’s north. The Ministry of Interior said in a statement that Nafouri was once one of the leading “officers involved in the bombing of opposition” areas in Syria.
