Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced on July 30th that his country intends to recognise Palestine as a state in September at the UN General Assembly, joining the UK and France in its move, according to The New Arab via Reuters.

The Canadian leader said recognising Palestine is vital to maintain hope for a two-state solution to the Gaza conflict. Carney said the move was a long-standing objective of his country which was “being eroded before our eyes.”

Canada is now one of three nations, alongside the UK and France, which recently announced plans to recognise Palestine as a state.
