Syria to receive Azeri gas from Turkey, eyes electricity boost

Turkey will begin sending natural gas from Azerbaijan to Syria on August 2nd, according to the Turkish energy minister, as post-war Syria is looking to bring back its power grid, The New Arab plus agencies reported on August 1st.

The energy minister, Alparslan Bayraktar, said natural gas will begin being exported from “from Azerbaijan to Aleppo via Kilis,” which is a southern Turkish province.

SANA news agency reported that roughly 900 megawatts of electricity will be produced through the gas exportation, as Syria hopes to strengthen its infrastructure following nearly 14 years of civil war.
