General Saddam Haftar, leader of Libya’s Ground Forces, has visited the Chadian president to discuss the reopening of the border shared between Libya and Chad which would boost regional commerce, according to the Libya Review on August 1st.

Their meeting follows a visit from Chad’s Defense Minister to Benghazi on May 25th to discuss cooperation between the nations, which signified progress towards countering the security threats in the Sahel.

Cross border smuggling is a rising concern in the area, but cross border trade would be restored if the nations can work together to reopen the border.
