Unemployment in Morocco is hitting women the hardest

Morocco’s labour market remains fragile as underemployment and a widening gender gap continue to plague the country’s growth, reports government-friendly Yabiladi on August 4.
Between Q1 2024 and Q2 2025, the national unemployment rate marginally decreased from 13.1 % to 12.8 % according to the state-run High Commission for Planning (HCP) in Rabat.
This increase mainly pertains to men, for whom unemployment fell from 11.7 % to 10.8 %. Women, on the other hand, saw joblessness increase from 17.7% to 19.9%, underscoring the Kingdom’s entrenched inequality.
The brunt of the burden, however, was felt by the youth. For those aged between 15-24, unemployment remains 35.8 %
