Lebanon’s plan for Hezbollah’s disarmament rebuffed by group

Hezbollah said on August 6th that Lebanon’s government was carrying out a “grave sin” by asking the army to create a state monopoly on weapons, heightening division over the disarmament of the group, according to France 24 via Reuters and AFP.
The cabinet on August 5th permitted Lebanon’s army to create roadmap to restrict arms in the nation to six formal security forces by the end of 2025.
The roadmap will be presented to the cabinet by the end of August. Hezbollah said Lebanon’s decision “fully serves Israel’s interest” and said it will “treat this decision as if” it was never made.
