UN agency warns of child malnutrition spike in Afghanistan

Afghanistan is experiencing its sharpest increase in child malnutrition, the World Food Program said on August 4th, warning that the UN agency requires $539 million to support the nation’s most desperate families, according to The Independent via AP.
Nearly 10 million people, 25% of the Middle Eastern country’s population, are experiencing critical food insecurity. A third of children are stunted.
According to the the agency, the increase in child malnutrition is down to a decline in emergency food aid during the last couple of years due to diminishing support from donors.
