UN expert: Judicial system “weaponised” by Afghanistan’s Taliban

Afghanistan’s Taliban has weaponised the judicial system to persecute women in what constitutes “crimes against humanity,” according to the country’s independent UN investigator for human rights in the nation, NBC News via The Associated Press reported on August 7th.
In a report to the UN General Assembly Richard Bennett said that after entering power in 2021 the Taliban dropped the 2004 constitution and the laws upholding the rights of women and girls.
This included a law that made 22 types of violence against women illegal, including rape as well as child and forced marriage.
