Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on August 7th, that Israel intends to fully control Gaza but does not want to govern the territory, as he met with his security cabinet for talks, 22 months into the Gaza conflict, according to The New Arab via Reuters.

The meeting comes at a time in which Netanyahu is under increasing pressure to secure a truce deal to find the hostages in Gaza and to stop the territory’s population from facing famine.

In an interview with Fox News, Netanyahu said: “We want to have a security perimeter [in the Gaza Strip]. We don’t want to govern it.”
