Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun warned senior Iranian official, Ali Larijani, against Iran’s continued support for Hezbollah despite Lebanon’s cabinet approving a US-backed disarmament plan, as covered by Maghrebi Week on August 18th.
Larijani said Iran respects Lebanon’s national sovereignty but defended its support for Hezbollah and called it the country’s “resistance” against Israeli attacks.
Lebanon’s Prime Minister Nawaf Salam also considered numerous recent remarks by Iranian officials to be a violation of his country’s sovereignty.
